The Sauce

Rhonda Sauce is the kind of artist who reminds you that the tradition is still being written..

Oakland-based vocalist, composer, arranger, lyricist, multi-instrumentalist, and bandleader Rhonda Sauce creates original music that honors the language of jazz while expanding into soul, blues, Brazilian music, and the broader Afro-diasporic tradition. With a voice that is both timeless and unmistakably personal, Rhonda delivers dynamic performances that combine sophisticated musicianship, emotional storytelling, and deep audience connection.

At the heart of Rhonda’s artistry is a growing body of original music shaped by rich harmony, infectious rhythms, and vivid storytelling. Her compositions blend the improvisational spirit of jazz with the emotional directness of soul and contemporary songwriting, creating a sound that is rooted in tradition while distinctly her own.

Rhonda’s original music has been met with enthusiastic reception across the Bay Area, including a sold-out premiere at the San Francisco International Arts Festival, a featured Studio 91 performance and interview on KCSM 91.1 FM, and coverage in the East Bay Express. She has performed at the Fillmore Jazz Festival and headlined the Levitt VIBE Oakland Concert Series, bringing her original compositions to diverse audiences throughout the Bay Area.

A captivating live performer, Rhonda’s music has appeared at renowned venues including SFJAZZ, Yoshi’s Oakland, and Freight & Salvage, The Soundroom, and Key’s Jazz Bistro and has collaborated with artists including Lenny Williams (Tower of Power), Tammy Hall, Jeff Chambers, Sundra Manning and Kim Nalley. Her ensemble is anchored by pianist and organist Adam Klipple, whose dynamic musicianship brings depth and versatility to Rhonda’s evolving sound.

An alumna of NEA Jazz Master Dee Dee Bridgewater’s Woodshed Network Residency, Rhonda Sauce represents a new generation of artists carrying American music forward—honoring the traditions that shaped her while creating original work that speaks to today’s audiences.
